French movie director Alain Resnais took photographic ‘notes’ of potential locations for various planned film projects. The images were taken between 1948 and 1971 in London, New York, Hiroshima, Italy, Scotland, and Paris, Lyon, Nevers and Autun in France. This obviously is the reason for the landscape format of the images. The printing quality is rather poor which ironically only adds to the atmosphere of this mid-seventies publication. Some of these locations were finally used, others not, but this book somehow compensates for this, and these empty stages encourage us to imagine our own stories.

Hardcover, 296 x 199 mm. Black & white photographs. Text in french. Oblong (Italian size). First edition, 1974. A bit yellowed due to time. In very good condition overall. A solid copy with a nice binding for this fragile book. Listed in the Photobook vol 3 of Parr&Badger p249.
