"Ikonta Monogatari" is a collection of photographs by Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading photographers. Araki began photography under the influence of his father. This book is a collection of photographs he took with his father's Ikonta (a spring camera manufactured by Zeiss Ikon), which was a memento of his father.
The book is composed of photographs taken between the fall of 1980 and February 1981, ranging from personal snapshots (including one of film director Seijun Suzuki!) to nudes of women. ) It gathers fragments of Araki's daily life, laid out as they were on contact sheets. Akira Suei, who is also known as an editor, designed the book.On many of the pages the 2 1/4 inch frames are reproduced in a grid layout, emphasizing the sequential nature of Araki's working process and giving the whole a cinematic feel. With its stupendous jacket design, this uncommon book that deserves a place among the handful of essential Araki titles.
