Conversations with trees' is a collection of photographic thoughts on beauty, fragility and resilience. It searches for the graphic nuances of landscape, explores the boundary between the representational and the abstract, and reflects on the composition of the signs of a misunderstood language.
Rooted in these contemplative explorations, the book presents twenty-four handprinted black and white photogravures showing trees from the artist's immediate urban surroundings.
Passed by every day for years, they have become companions: silent figures standing out in the pattern of the city.
Printed on light, transparent paper and layered in subtle overlaps, the trees unfold in a rhythmic structure that evokes the sense of strolling through a forest. The black and white meditations on the metaphorical and unconscious act of creation alternately invite the gaze to wander into the grey expanse or linger in the darkness of the night.
From branch to twig, into the thicket, from outside to within- before guiding us back into the pale sky. These are fleeting memories layered upon each other and a pain that runs through our veins — printed entirely in black on black, revealing a certain absence that is always present.
At the core of this journey stand the trees themselves: mysterious, simple, working, dying beings.
Surrounded by the ancient symbolism of transformation and growth, they invite us to leaf through the winter forest and to remember something once known but long forgotten.
