Mont Chauve in Nice, located 6 km north of the city, towers over it at a height of 870 m. Its name is thought to come from a mistranslation of the original Provençal name, Mont Cau.
However, this name is well suited to the bare and arid appearance of its summit, which is emphasised by the presence of an old military fort. Today, it is bristling with antennas connected to the city's airport.
Its position makes it visible from all sides and, dominating the city from its height, it evokes another famous mountain:
Mount Fuji. It is, in a way, and without irony, a bonsai version of it.
However, it is often ignored by both locals (some mistake it for an ancient volcano) and tourists.
Their gaze is more drawn to the Baie des Anges or the high mountains of the Mercantour.
Having it in front of my eyes from my terrace, I decided to highlight it to compensate for the relative indifference
of the locals.
Beyond the playful nickname, this peak is a remarkable cloud catcher! The warm winds from the south and
cold winds from the north surround it with cumulus or stratus clouds in surprising shapes, transforming it into a
giant dreamcatcher.
